Blogging Is More Important Now Than Ever Before – Updated October 1, 2017

March 1, 2016 • Blogging • Views: 9098

BloggingA few years ago, a lot of the “experts” boldly stated that “blogging was dead”.

As I’ve mentioned in other posts, they were not only wrong about it being “dead” but that blogging is actually MORE important NOW than EVER before.

The “Gurus” that said it was dead not only now see how important it is but have been totally redesigning their own websites so that the “content” (ie: blog posts) show up first and foremost on their Home Page!

With recent Google algorithm changes AND the increasing difficulty to get paid ads that go straight to squeeze pages or sales pages approved on Google or Facebook,  blogging is yet again the solution.

(For those of us who knew all along the importance of blogging, we never stopped.)

“Content marketing” is the new buzzword being used to describe it but it is just good ole’ blogging.

Blogging – Then and Now

Blogging was initially used to provide a unique way for people to share their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and opinions.

Today, however, everyone from Fortune 500 companies to mom-and-pop shops are utilizing blogging (in addition to other digital reach methods) to increase their digital presence and inevitably increase their bottom line.

In fact, if your business’s website does not have a blog that is actively updated on a regular basis, then you are missing a huge opportunity to increase your company’s visibility and therefore increase your digital reach—your potential client base and your bottom line.

Blogging Matters—Just Ask Google

In today’s internet-based society, your business has to have a powerful online presence in order to stand out among your competitors. When someone goes to search for a professional or business in your industry, you want your name to come up close to the top of the list. How do you do that? With effective search engine optimization.

In the past companies like Google put an emphasis on keywords—which words that you were using to market your business and how often those words appeared on your website. As technology has evolved, Google (and other search engines) are using advanced formulas that determine how frequently you post and update your website in addition to the origination and quality of the content you post.

What does this have to do with blogging? Everything in the Social signals and the importance of bloggingworld.

There is not a better way to add relevant content to your website on a regular basis than to utilize a blog. If you do not want to call it a blog, you can call it a “learning center” or any other catchphrase that you want to use to categorize the frequent posts to your website—at the end of the day they are blogs and these blogs are powerful.

Where you rank in search engines matter.

One of the most effective ways to increase your search engine rankings is to add unique, high quality content on a regular basis—to blog.

Joining The Ultra Blog challenge will most definitely help you do that in a fun and social way.

Some members have reports getting over 1000 new clicks a month just from the great SEO they have gotten from participating in the Ultra Blog Challenge.

But that’s not all!

Another HUGE thing that helps your blog posts get HIGH rankings in the search engines so that YOU get lots of high quality, targeted traffic is “Social Signals”.

What are Social Signals?

Social Signals are the signals that the search engines receive about how active your posts are on social media.

How many shares, likes and comments you get on your blog posts.

Social sites like Facebook and Twitter, especially Google Plus and Pinterest, impact your search engine rankings.

More social signals, better search engine rankings….better rankings, more quality, targeted free traffic to your blog.

Posting in the Ultra Blog Challenge Facebook group greatly helps with this.

    Hi Kathy,
Good to be back in the nurturing folds of the Ultra Blog Challenge.
I look forward to sharing some great subject matter and shedding more light again this year on vision loss during October’s Blindness Awareness Month.

  2. Janelle says:

Hi.. Thanks or sharing this. I heard so much rumors over the years yes blogging is going to dye. I just personally never believed that. The internet never sleeps. So blogging will never sleep too. I’m curious to know if SEO is still even much worth it? I mean with all these algorithm changes and frequents updates etc should we still practice SEO? Or just build our email list and market/promote our blogs that way? SEO is boring and makes me sound like a robot.

    • Kathy Hadley says:

      Dear Janelle.

Yes, blogging is more necessary than EVER with all the features of re-marketing you can do once someone has come to your site.
It is much more powerful than it ever was before.

As for SEO, it will always be a GREAT THING to be HIGH in search engines for people looking for YOUR particular product or service.

When people talk about the process of getting good SEO as being “dead” or “useless”, these people, for the most part were using methods to try and “game” the system. However, if you get REAL SEO and are high in the search engines because of things like the benefits of the Ultra Blog Challenge and posting in our social media groups…that is what Google and the other search engines WANT!

Always write and post for real people, your real audience. Participate with other REAL PEOPLE in the Ultra Blog Challenge and then you actually attract the REAL PEOPLE you want as subscribers, followers, and raving fans of your blog.

      Thanks for stopping by.
Hope to see you in the Ultra Blog Challenge!

Blogging has brought me many speaking engagements internationally as well as awesome guests for my talk show. Add to that personal fulfillment, engagement with incredible people globally, humor and hugs. Two years ago I didn’t even know what a blog was and now I have two and try to blog 3 – 5 times a week.

    • Kathy Hadley says:

      Dear Carol,

      That is really awesome! 🙂
And I totally agree with the connections with other people!
Blogging and being part of blog challenges has been very rewarding
      both personally and professionally.

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting.

  4. SEO aside, blogging is how I tell if a business is still IN business – and how serious they are.

Monthly = consistent but probably not full-time
Weekly = Yes! Serious business here
In between = probably okay; might not be full-time.

Anything sporadic tells me that they’re more of a hobby than a real business and MIGHT be flaky or not serious. Probably don’t want to do business here; they’re NOT an industry leader.

  5. Some really great points! It’s encouraging for someone who’s just started up a blog 🙂
I think I’m going to take the advice of the people in the comments and make a google plus page!

  6. Linda Luke says:

I appreciate this validation of what I know in my heart. My blog is my gift to the world and seems to be very successful at helping people. I also have a lot of people asking for my coaching on starting new blogs. Blogs are still a hot trend and now, thanks to you, we have the proof.

  7. K. Lee Banks says:

You know, I wondered when I started seeing that bold declaration about blogging being “dead” – silly people for saying such a thing!

Thanks for the old and updated info -still all valuable! I had forgotten about the “social signals” – very interesting facts!

  8. Tina says:

Great information here. Blogging is surely here to stay and it can easily be a career option too!

    • Kathy Hadley says:

      Dear Tina,

It MOST CERTAINLY can be a career option. Many people are making a living blogging themselves or writing for other bloggers. There is really much more demand than there is supply for great writers, believe it or not. I see posts in writing, blogging and internet marketing groups all the time from people seeking great writers to update their content regularly.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Something I never realized until the last couple of months is the power of Google+. I’ve been posting on it almost every day now, and pretty much only post on my Facebook fan page a couple of times a week. Google +, I believe, should be utilized by any blogger who uses their own photography. Having said that, I can also state that I enjoy participating in your monthly challenges – your Facebook page is well moderated and you are willing to work with newbies to make sure they get he most of the challenge.

    • Kathy Hadley says:

      Dear Alana,

Yes, you are correct, Google + is awesome all on its own. However, when you add that to the combination of posting in our Ultra Blog Google + private group and the other “secrets” you get in the Upgraded Memberships, you can really skyrocket your blog posts up the search engines and get tons more free traffic.

  10. K. Lee Banks says:

Thank you for sharing such valuable information and insight! I also appreciate having the opportunity to be a founding member with the Ultra Blog Challenge.

I hadn’t heard of social signals before or their role in increasing blog traffic. I like the infographics, too — very interesting!

Blogging is here to stay especially as you also mentioned google every now and then is tweaking its algorithm to promote content and not quantity (or money). Blogging is one thing that will be the key to all these updates.

  12. Amy Bovaird says:

Yes, I definitely agree, Kathy, and just having come off nearly a month sabbatical (only blogging on Fridays to catch up on my book), I can see that I lost some of my following by not keeping up. Thanks for the reminder!

  13. I totally agree with you about is! Great points raised here too.

  14. I’m so glad to hear that regular blogging helps our SEO. This, I do. Thank you for being a good role model, Kathy.
